Hm okay, so probability wasn't as easy as I thought it would be. At the beginning, I had a good understanding of what probability was and was able to answer these problem solving questions. But, as we got further into the unit, the questions began to get harder. Sometime while we were learning mutually exclusive and not mutually exclusive I got confused, but we cleared it up the next day. My muddiest point would have to be when these probability questions began to have combinatorics in it =S Overall, this unit was okay .. I don't like probability as much as I liked it in the beginning heh. Goodluck to everyone.

Probability
Hi guys! Welcome back. Hopefully everyone enjoyed their holiday :] To start off the morning, Mr. K discussed our DEV projects. He also mentioned the pretty cool links along the right side that could help us study for our exam [y] We then started discussing and solving the following questions:
DEPENDENT PROBABILITY: Depends on the first step.
EX 1. A marble is drawn, not replaced and a second marble is drawn from the bag containing three red and three blue marbles. What is the probability that the second marble is blue?

INDEPENDENT PROBABILITY: Does not depend on the first step.
EX 1. A marble is drawn, replaced and a second marble is drawn from the bag containing three red and three blue marbles. What is the probability that the second marble is blue?
1a. A coin is flipped twice. Draw a tree diagram of the sample space and list the possibilities of each outcome.

b. A coin is flipped three times. Draw a tree diagram of the sample space and list the possibilities of each outcome.
In a family of three children, with boys and girls equally likely to be born, what is the probability that exactly two kids are girls?
oh and dont forget to accept your invitation to get access to the blog for your DEV project. afk kay now I have to go review for my english exam =S. the next scribe is ... JESSICCAI

Ah okay, this is some last minute blogging before the test. Overall, I found conics to be an okay unit. I didn't really have trouble with it, until we started learning about the hyperbola. I didn't really understand the concept of graphing it, but the exercise from yesterday helped a lot. \goodluck to everyone :)

Combinatorics
Okay, so that was my looong post on combinatories. Sorry for the late post, I was having trouble in how I would publish it. Anyways, I thought I would be able to get away with that really short scribe, but I guess not .. ooh well, it's all good. Oh yeah, before we started class Mr. K showed us this really cool video of some guy figuring out the a rubiks cube; it was craaazy.
HOMEWORK: is to be found one slide down.
and the next scribe is still .. shane : )

TEST DAY
On Thursday, we had a test on Exponents and Logarithms. I hope everyone did well on their test. On Monday, we will continue with our new unit, Combinatories and Functional Notations. That is all :)

This unit was a tough one. At first, when it was being introduced it was simple and easy to follow, but as we got further along into the unit it became very complicated. I have the formulas down, it's just a matter of when I'm supposed to use it and where I plug in the numbers. So, I would have to say my muddiest point was when we started doing word problems; I was so clued out. UGH! aaand I still kind of don't get it. I also had a bit of difficulty with graphing the logarithms, but the review on Monday was great, it helped clear up a lot of things :)

This unit wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but there were times where I had trouble. There are so many Identities that I am not really familiar with yet and because of this, I sometimes have trouble proving one side from the other. Other than that, I'm fine with doing the algebra. I also tend to make little concept errors such as writing in the wrong function, or not changing signs when we're supposed to leads me to have a completely different answer. Hopefully, with a little bit more practice I'll be ready for the test.

BOB
Okay. Well, i found this unit to be a bit confusing for me. Like what most of the people have said, I too have had difficulty with the inverse and reciprocal. On the last quiz we took I went completely blank and mixed up everything. But, going over these questions have helped me understand it a little bit more. I find it interestng how I understand it so well when we're working on questions either together in groups or together as a class. Or how I'd undestand it when I'm doing my work, and then screw up on my quizes. Other than the confusion with the inverse and reciprocal, I'm pretty okay with the other stuff. Hopefully, I'll do good on the test. Goodluck to everyone :]

Circular Functions
Hey guys, sorry for the really late post. Today, we started class by answering these three questions:

For the second half of class we had mental math. We then learned how to plot sine and cosine functions onto a graph which pretty much took the whole period.
The basic sine function: y = sin (x). Even though the sine and cosine graph looks the same, they have different starting points. But, this could easy be changed if cosine was to be shifted either to the left or right by half of pi.
ex.)
3 sin 4(x - 8) + 5
the distance between the min/max value from the average value
compresses/stretches the graph
x-value shifts left/right; if negative, shifts right. if positive, shifts left
y-value shifts upwards/downwards; if negative, shifts downwards. if positive, shifts up.

Tomorrow, we will continue with what we learned today, but Mr. K will further explain the function of cosine. Sorry, if this wasn't much help. I don't really understand the whole function graph thing yet, but Mr. K will continue where we left off today so it's all good. Oh and sorry i didn't post up a graph to show my function of sine.
HOMEWORK: one slide down :] questions (a) through (f) ; sketch graph.
